Growing up, I used to think that wipers are not replaceable. I used to think that they wipe and wipe for as long as the car is in good condition. How wrong I was? See, most of the things on a car or vehicle are replaceable after a given time period.
Just like anything that is used regularly or on a daily basis, most things on a car are supposed to be replaced. Things such as tyres, head lights, tail lights, indicators or their bulbs are replaceable when they are worn out or in case of tyres when they are expired or flat.
For wiper blades, they wear out after a given period. The blades are exposed to all kinds of weather and will wear out depending on the usage. In some countries where there is snow, that means, the blades are even exposed to harsh conditions and will wear out faster.
Although some wipers are made by OEMs that is original equipment manufacturers and that they can universally be used, this may not be the case for some makes. There are some makes such as Mercedes Benz that have unique wiper blades.
I have noticed some Benz cars with a single large wiper blade that is spread across the entire windscreen. So, before you replace the blades first find out where they can be sourced from and which type they are.
How do you know that the blades need to be replaced? Good question, whenever the wipers are not wiping well, then you know that they should be replaced. Some wipers can be replaced by following a few instructions in your car manual if you don’t have one, get some tips from the internet. If you cannot do the job yourself, then get a professional mechanic to do it for you.
Locally, depending on make and type, the blades start from shs25, 000 up to about shs200, 000.
